Voters rush to registration offices
NASHIK: Citizens across Nashik have been making a beeline for registration offices ever since the district election office launched the special summary revision of electoral roll starting this month, for those wanting to add or delete their names from the voters' list in the respective assembly constituencies. As many s 2,317 applications have been received so far and the offices are already short of form no.
6 given to voters wanting to enroll afresh.
A lot of youngsters are seen visiting the district election offices, especially the one at the collectorate campus, to register themselves.
But the election offices are witnessing shortage of form number 6 that is meant to be filled in by the citizens whose name is not included in the list or even those who are filling afresh. "I had gone to the Devlali electoral registration and sought three forms, one each for my sister and my friend and me, for enrolling our names in the voters' list. But the officials offered me just one form, asking me to take photocopies of it," said Rajashree Ramraje, resident of Nashik Road.
Similar was the case in Nashik Central or Nashik West divisions. "There is shortage of the forms. Also, people take a large number of forms but only a few return with the filled ones. While the administration may make more forms available, citizens too must learn to use the forms judiciously. Besides, they can also fill the forms online," an officer at the Nashik West election office said. The officers have also started stamping the forms so that they are not submitted in other constituencies.
Of the total 2,317 forms received, the maximum, 1,800, are from four constituencies of the city, Nashik East, Nashik West, Nashik Central and Deolali. The maximum number of names deleted from the electoral roll are from the city areas, especially the Nashik West region. where CIDCO forms the major hub of the floating population. This is because of the industries being the biggest source of employment here.
