Malayalam films are undergoing a lot change. Today, many filmmakers are opting for subjects that are rooted to reality, are they are being well received by the audience too.
It could be this fascination for real-life characters and natural dialogue rendition that has resulted in actresses dubbing for themselves even if their voices are not so ‘sweet’ and ‘soft’.

We recently had Kalaranjini dubbing for herself in How Old Are You after decades in the industry. And most of the young crop of actors like Bhavana and Rima Kallingal speak in their voices. Actress Mythili too dubbed for the first time in Ee Adutha Kaalathu. “Every heroine was expected to have a sweet voice earlier. But not anymore. Nowadays directors want something different and they encourage heroines to dub for themselves even if their voices are not perfect,” said Mythili during an interview.
