DESPITE seeing their players travelling on refuse trucks to fulfil their away matches, Chitungwiza Municipality Football Club have vowed to transform themselves into a Premiership side and bring top-flight football back to the dormitory town in the next two years.
Speaking at a presentation function in Chitungwiza yesterday where the club received a kit donation worth US$1 500 from giant local sports equipment suppliers — In-Sport — the chairman of Chitungwiza Municipality Football Club, Innocent Dzorani, said they were determined to see their club playing in the Premiership.

Since inception in 2002, Dzorani said his Northern Region Division Three side, which sometimes is referred to as Chitungwiza United, like any other business entity in Zimbabwe, has had its challenges which threaten to derail the objectives and vision of the club.

“As much as we appreciate the provision of transport by Chitungwiza Municipality to fulfil away fixtures, it is unfortunate and embarrassing to inform you my dear brothers and sisters that the mode of transport we are using now as a club is a refuse or sewerage truck.

“This has not only been a health hazard to our players but an aspect that de-motivates the players,” Dzorani told guests at yesterday’s function which was also attended by representatives of Pelhams and FBC Bank.

Despite these challenges, Dzorani said his executive and the soccer-loving residents of Chitungwiza were more than determined to see their club rising to become one of the football giants in Zimbabwe.

“It is a pleasure to learn that Chitungwiza has undoubtedly produced talent which we even recognise until today in the (local) football fraternity . . .
“It is therefore our anticipation that, having all the necessary resources, we identify and nurture the local talent and produce a team from Chitungwiza which will play in the Premier League in the next two years and not just play in the Premier League, but become Zimbabwean champions and be an ambassador of the country in football and produce players that will turn the fortunes of this country’s football,” Dzorani said.

In-Sport director, Amon Madzvamuse, said he was deeply touched by the club’s plight and pledged his company’s “unwavering” support in helping them to overcome.
“In-Sport, as one of the major sports equipment suppliers in Zimbabwe, have decided to come on board and enter into a partnership with Chitungwiza Municipality Football Club with the main aim being that of helping the club to gain promotion into the Premier League.

“It is very strange too see that this dormitory town, which has produced a number of talented or gifted players such as Gift ‘Umbro’ Muzadzi, Lloyd Chitembwe, Norman Mapeza, the late Forbes Ndaba, Alois Bunjira and Stewart Murisa, who all went on to play for the senior national team, the Warriors and ending up plying their trade outside the country, has no team that plays in the Premier League,” said Madzvamutse.

As a resident of Chitungwiza, Madzvamuse also donated a full set of tracksuits to the team’s players after learning that they travel on refuse trucks to fulfil matches
Priscilla Vengai, the Chamber Secretary of Chitungwiza Municipality, who stood in for their Town Clerk, pledged their support.
