Bangalore, June 3 : Karnataka Minister for Small Scale Industries, Muzrai (religious endowment) and sugar Prakash B. Hukkeri resigned Tuesday from the council of ministers following his election to the Lok Sabha.

"Governor H.R. Bhardwaj accepted Hukkeri's resignation, forwarded by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and allocated his portfolios of small scale industries and muzrai to the chief minister and sugar to Co-operation Minister H.S. Mahadev Prasad," a Raj Bhavan communique said.

Hukkeri defeated Katti Ramesh Vishwanath of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a slender margin of 3,003 votes from Chikkodi constituency in the northern region of the state.

BJP's former state chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa also resigned from the Shikaripura assembly segment following his election to the Lok Sabha from Shimoga with a huge margin of 3,63,305 votes against Congress candidate Manjunath Bhandary.

BJP's former state minister B.Sreeramulu won from the Bellary reserved (ST) seat though he is a lawmaker from Bellary rural assembly segment. He defeated N.Y. Hanumantappa of Congress by 85,144 votes.

Of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state, BJP won 17, Congress nine and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) three.
