The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in Arunachal Pradesh today elected senior MLA Tamiyo Taga as the party's leader in the assembly.
Mr Taga will be the opposition leader in the 60-member house after the party won 11 seats in the April 9 assembly elections in the state.
The MLAs of the party in presence of party's central election observer Sudhanshu Mittal and state organisation in charge Prashant Arora unanimously elected Mr Taga to the post, party's state president Tai Tagak told a press conference here today.
"Our party will play the role of constructive opposition in the assembly and will work up to the expectation of the people who voted in our favour," he said.
"In the past two days, we have discussed on our future course of strategy and the current political situation of the state. Our strategy will be to take Arunachal Pradesh into a new direction and will voice against the misdeeds of the ruling government," Mr Tagak said.
Mr Mittal, who was also present in the press conference, exuded hope that the party's MLAs would bring a change in the corrupt governance by highlighting the misdeeds of the Congress.
The newly elected MLAs are committed and dedicated and will work effortlessly to highlight the grievance of the people in the floor of the assembly as well as outside the house.
Mr Taga said that the party would act as a watch dog over the performance of the new government in the state.
