Mob fury after mentally ill man kills 1 in Ujjain

UJJAIN: The police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse a crowd in Shanti Nagar. The crowd demanded that a man who murdered an elderly person in the area be handed over to them.
According to the police, Gangaram Berwa (60), a resident of Shanti Nagar, died on the spot after Akash slashed his neck with a knife. Akash, who is said to be mentally disturbed, climbed a building and started pelting stones at people on the road.When the police reached the spot to take him away, area residents demanded that the accused be handed over to them so that they could thrash him.
As tension was palpable in the area, ADM Avdesh Sharma, ASP Rajesh Vyas reached the spot with heavy police force and riot-control vehicles and dispersed the crowd with mild lathicharge.
ADM said the situation was under control and the residents had been advised to go the legal way.
