City govt schools record pass percent of 75.41%

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Manimajra, topped the list of the city government schools by securing 100% results.

Government schools in Chandigarh recorded a pass percentage of 75.41% in Class XII CBSE exams. Of 10,184 city government school students, who had appeared for Class XII boards this year, as many as 7,680 students cleared the exams, while 1,025 failed.

Apart from the students who have failed, as many as 1,428 have been given ‘Reappear’ in their results. The pass percentage of girls who had appeared in board exams was 78.48% and the pass percentage of boys was 71.79%.

Not satisfied by the results, DPI(S) Kamlesh Kumar said, “The results are not at par with the expectations but I congratulate all those schools who have managed to secure above 90% pass percentage and also all those students who have cleared their exams with flying colours.”
Kumar added, “An analysis would be done and report will be prepared such that we could know where did we go wrong, after which efforts will be made to correct the gaps where we are lacking.”

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Manimajra, topped the list of the city government schools by securing 100% results.

As many as 218 students of this school had appeared in boards this year, all of them have passed, while 56 students have scored above 90%.

Kund Bala, principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School (MHC), Manimajra giving 100% credit to the teachers for the results, said, “Periphery schools claim that they have scored less marks since they have students belonging to economically weaker section but I also had such students who did not have much calibre. There were strict warnings to the teachers that every student should pass this year and more importance will be given to all the poor-performing students and hence the results.”

GMSSS-16, securing a total pass percentage of 99.14% bagged the second position amongst the government schools. While, government school Sector 37 was third with 95.71% pass percentage. One of the students of GMSSS-37, Ritvik Choudhary of Non-Medical stream scored 97.6%. Then was the government model senior secondary school, Sector 35 which secured 94.74% as the over all pass percentage of the school.

However, there are some schools like, GMSSS Sarangpur, GSSS-Khuda Lahora, GSSS-Khuda AliSher and GMSSS-Karsan, where 39, 50, 34 and 50 students have failed respectively.

Harbir Singh Anand, principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Karsan blamed it on the CBSE assessment criteria in class X which has influenced the class XII results as well.
