Success comes to her basket smoothly

City girl secures first rank in State in Class X with 499 marks

May 24, 2014 10:39 am | Updated 10:39 am IST - MADURAI:

One of the 19 State first rank holders in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), A. Sanjana of SDH Jain Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School here had worked hard but did not expect to secure a State rank.

Sanjana says that studying routinely for two and a half hours a day and sleeping for eight hours at night helped her keep stress-free and score high.

She has scored full marks in English, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics, and 99 marks in Tamil.

“I am a basketball player. I spent a lot of time at basketball ground and took part in tournaments in order to be calm and stress-free. I did not attend any tuition,” says Sanjana.

“I want to study Geo-Informatics and become a space researcher,” she adds.

Her parents, A. Arun, a businessman, and A. Priya, a homemaker, are elated after the results were announced on Friday.

“We did not imagine she would become a State topper. She has always been very attentive in classrooms. From a very young age she has the practice of writing down and revising her portions. That helped her a lot,” says Ms. Priya.

“We expected her to score above 495. But the State rank with 499 marks came as a complete surprise. We are excited and elated,” Mr. Arun says.

Anita Santhakumar, Principal of the school, says this is the first State rank the school has had in 34 years since its establishment.

“We believe in providing a stress-free environment for the students to study. We ensure that the students spend at least five hours in a week in extra curricular activities,” she adds.
