Bayern Munich's collective domination of the Bundesliga season might have cost Pep Guardiola's troupe individually, at least in the eyes of the DW sports team. Only captain Philipp Lahm made the final cut, despite votes being cast for more than half a dozen different stars from Säbener Strasse.

And even Lahm is playing out of position to accommodate more attacking players, a situation he may become familiar with at the World Cup next month. We have, however, adopted Pep Guardiola's all-attacking 4-1-4-1 formation in order to squeeze in as many goals as possible, and an extra sliver of the champions' DNA.

Goalkeeper:

Bernd Leno - Bayer Leverkusen: His penalty-saving record (eight faced, five saved) justified wild-card inclusion in Joachim Löw's World Cup squad, not to mention the mediocrity of third choice Ron-Robert Zieler. The Germany coach can't overlook him for much longer.

Defenders:

Philipp Lahm - Bayern Munich: One of two players to receive all five votes for a place in team of the season. He spent much of the season switching between right back and defensive midfield in Pep Guardiola's tiki-taka passing system. From the best right back in the world to a key midfield pivot, his intelligence alone is worthy of a spot in the best 11.

Sokratis - Borussia Dortmund: Such an (unexpectedly) important part of the Dortmund team this season whose back line was decimated by injuries. He may still collect cards like Panini stickers, but his signing was an excellent bit of business and he fit perfectly into Jürgen Klopp's squad.

Naldo - Wolfsburg: The big Brazilian was consistently strong, as ever, this season. He formed a wonderful partnership with the young Robin Knoche and even scored a solid contender for goal of the season.

Ricardo Rodriguez - Wolfsburg: He can cross, mark, tackle, take effective set pieces and attack! The 21-year-old may be completely one-footed, but he's a splendid player who looks destined for bigger and better things in the near future.

Midfielders:

Daniel Baier - Augsburg: Statistically one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga this season and a crucial cog in Augsburg's unexpectedly strong campaign, one that nearly saw them qualify for Europe. He's a lynchpin, ball-winner, ball-player and leader all rolled into one.

Marco Reus - Borussia Dortmund: Mario who? Reus made Dortmund fans forget Götze's departure and carried the team almost all on his own in the second half of the season. The only other player to receive all five votes, his was the first name on the best 11 team sheet. With 16 goals and 14 assists, he was almost unstoppable this season. Just think, back in 2010 it seemed the only "Marco" going to the World Cup in Brazil for Germany would be a Marko, namely Marin.

Roberto Firmino - Hoffenheim: The Brazilian was the offensive spark for Markus Gisdol's renewed Hoffenheim this season. His 16 goals and 11 assists were the reason his club comfortably avoided the drop, and even had Brazil coach Felipe Scolari come along to see what all the fuss was about.

Andre Hahn - Augsburg: A breakout season for the young German, whose strong performances on the wing were enough to earn him a call-up to the national team. His ability to score goals out of nothing epitomizes Augsburg's overachieving season. His move to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer will either make or break him, but his rise thus far has been remarkable, and he just keeps getting better.

Hakan Calhanoglu - Hamburg: The 20-year-old was the lone bright spot in a dismal season for HSV. With excellent passing, shooting and set piece delivery, he has future superstar written all over him. That he was able to score 11 goals in such a woeful side is a remarkable feat - let's just hope he stays in the Bundesliga for a few more seasons.

Striker:

Robert Lewandowski - Borussia Dortmund: The Polish striker finished his final season at BVB with a bang, winning the golden boot with 20 goals. Despite having his summer move to Bayern confirmed in January, he's knuckled down and continued to be the fantastic focal point of Dortmund's attack.
