IMPHAL: At least five persons were injured when a few people belonging to a minority community opened fire over an alleged land dispute case at Uchiwa village in Imphal West on Sunday.
Security has been beefed up in the area. A joint action committee set up by 18 social organizations, called a 12-hour statewide bandh on Monday protesting against the incident and failure of the government to take action against the attackers.

Sources said trouble began when a few locals went to a Meitie deity complex in the nearby Leira Ching area to hold a cleanliness camp on Sunday around 11am.
When they reached the spot, people from a minority community occupied the area and claimed the area as their own. Locals immediately informed police. The people from minority community suddenly opened fire from double barrels injuring five persons. The injured were immediately taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences where doctors said they were out of danger.
The incident happened barely 10 days after another group from the same community demolished a Meitie temple at Heingang in Imphal East.
In another incident, a hand grenade was found near a government school at Kwakeithel here on Sunday. Bomb experts retrieved the grenade.
