MANGALORE: The Mangalore City police on Saturday arrested a person, who had enrolled for PhD programme at NIT-K Surathkal, for allegedly causing his wife's death through mental torture.
The arrested is JK Manjunath, hailing from Hassan and residing at Surathkal. His wife Nayana (23) had allegedly committed suicide on Friday. The woman's father had complained at Surathkal police station that Manjunath had forced his daughter to commit suicide as he was mentally torturing her.
Nayana, a post graduate, was married to Manjunath, an engineering graduate, on August 6, 2012. Manjunath was working as a lecturer at an engineering college, Vamanjoor. He had enrolled for PhD programme at NIT-K on January 17, this year.
On Friday, when Nayana's father called her mobile, she had not responded. He called Manjunath and asked him to check why Nayana was not receiving calls and Manjunath found her hanging from the ceiling of the house.
