Amidst bonhomie, Pakistan has shown its familiar hand again when it objected to the construction of the prestigious road project along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
The incident happened some days ago when Pakistani soldiers across the LoC showed flags signaling their objection to the road construction. However, Indian army talked to their counterparts immediately and resolved the matter amicably.
Under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojyana (PMGSY), the government is spending Rs7.5 crore to construct a 12 kilometer road to connect three LoC villages — Balakote, Silikote and Hathlanga — in the Uri sector.
"It had happened some days ago. They (government) started construction of development road. Naturally other side wanted to know what it is. We talked to them on the hotline and told them that it is a road connecting these villages and that was it. The matter was resolved," Lieutenant Colonel NN Joshi, defence spokesman at Srinagar, told dna.
The spokesman said the work was not stopped on the road project at all. "Nothing like work was stopped. Work is continuing.. Basically it is the developmental project", he said.
This is second time that Pakistan has objected to the developmental project on this side of Kashmir since October 2013.
Last year Pakistani army forced the Jammu and Kashmir government to suspend the work on the model village being set up along the line of control (LoC) in Keran sector of Kupwara district.
Under the border area development project, J&K government was spending Rs2.18 crore on different works including roads, children park, community hall and library blocks in Keran sector
The matter was taken up immediately with Pakistan and after getting the green signal the work resumed again on the model village after few days.
