SURAT: Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) has lodged a police case against Dilip Vasava, son of JD(U) MLA from Jhagadia Chhotu Vasava for allegedly instigating the villagers in Dharoli of Jhagadia taluka when 19 consumers were caught stealing power by a vigilance team on Thursday.
DGVCL stated that a team had gone on a routine checking drive at Dharoli village in Jhagadia taluka and caught 19 consumers for stealing power.

However, Dilip Vasava interfered in the inspection drive and forced the officials to flee the spot by gathering more than 500 villagers.
Vasava also snatched an electricity meter seized by the DGVCL officials from one of the consumers involved in power theft.
Safety superintendent of the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) RJ Savani rushed to the spot and immediately instructed Valia Police to register a case against Dilip and others for shielding power thieves and interfering in the operations of DGVCL officials.
A DGVCL statement said that Dilip claimed that he is the son of JD(U) MLA Chhotu Vasava and asked the officials to go from the village or else be prepared to face the ire of the villagers.
Sources said that during their ongoing operation in Jambusar, Valia and Jhagadia talukas in the last two days, the DGVCL has detected 401 power thefts worth Rs 59.21 lakh in 4,000 connections checked by their team.
