BJP’s winning candidate from Mumbai North East Lok Sabha constituency, Kirit Somaiya, took an hour-long field trip of Kanjurmarg Railway Station with railway authorities on Wednesday to review the trespass control programme under way at the station.

Somaiya was briefed about the additional foot-over-bridge, skywalks and pathways that were planned under the project at the station. Later, he visited the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) office at Churchgate for a detailed discussion about the programme planned at 12 suburban stations.

“We have come here to understand the various projects that railways have planned to improve the suburban railways system. The expansion of the station and trespass control programme has been discussed, and suggestions made to better services for commuters. New booking offices, FOB and a platform have been planned at Kanjurmarg. I came here for a field trip,” Somaiya said.

When asked about shortage of funds for railway projects, Somaiya said, “Funds are never a problem if work needs to be done. We need to ensure that funds are used for the right work.”

Somaiya now plans to conduct a joint meeting of all six MPs from Mumbai with Central Railway, Western Railway and MRVC officials.
