RAJKOT: A speeding water tanker rammed into a level crossing barrier just before a train was to pass at Amrapali railway crossing near Kishanpara in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred when the barrier was being lowered because the train was to pass by in a few minutes. In a hurry to cross the tracks before the train arrived, the tanker driver rammed into the barrier, creating a traffic jam on Raiya Road.
Due to the incident, the train had to be slowed down to avoid any untoward incident. The tanker driver, identified as Chhagan Parmar, was detained and a case has been registered against him.
Amrapali railway crossing is one of the busiest in the city and the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is planning to construct an overbridge here.
