NAVI MUMBAI: An enraged Gulf-based lover of a married woman was reportedly behind a bomb scare on the
Diva-Sawantwadi passenger
train, leading to a four-hour halt at
Roha station for a precautionary check by police.
The
NRI in Saudi Arabia, Abdulla Deshmukh, had reportedly called up the Roha station master from abroad to inform him that a woman in the train was carrying a live bomb.
“We could pinpoint that Deshmukh was behind the hoax call after questioning the woman he had named. The resident of Mahad in Raigad district had left for a job in the
Gulf in March. He decided to take revenge as his affair with the woman turned sour,“ said deputy superintendent of police Amol Zende. He added that the woman admitted to the police that she and Deshmukh were having an affair earlier this year.
A bomb detection and disposal squad was sent from Alibaug to Roha to check for explosives early in the morning.
“We instinctively knew that there would not be any real threat after questioning the woman, who is in her 40s. From her responses, it became clear that Deshmukh had a grudge and wanted to take revenge,“ said Raigad superintendent of police Ankush Shinde. He added that affected passengers were accommodated in another Sawantwadi-bound holiday special.
The Raigad police will write to the state director-general of police to take action against Deshmukh.
