Two jailers suspended in prisoner's death case

KANPUR: IG district jail Jagmohan Yadav suspended jailer and deputy jailer of Farrukhabad district jail in connection with the death of a jail inmate Rajendra Yadav, which led to arson and violence on the premises on May 17. Prima facie, the jailer and his deputy have been held responsible for the violence, according to sources.
Police have also registered a case against jailer Suresh Chandra Mishra and deputy jailer Rajesh Kumar Rai, besides nine jail wardens including Om Prakash, Pradeep Bhadauria, Ajay Kushwaha, Jitendra Yadav, Vikas Katiyar, Hakim Singh, Pankaj Shukla, Purshottam Singh and Jitendra Singh, who have now been attached to jail headquarters.

On May 17, jail inmate Rajendra Yadav died inside the jail. The other inmates of the same barrack went on a rampage alleging that Yadav died due to negligence by the jail staff. The local police was called to control the angry inmates. Thereafter, district magistrate Pawan Kumar arrived at the scene along with SP Alankrita Singh and ordered a magisterial probe into Rajendra's death and the violence that followed. Regarding appointment of proper medical staff, a doctor and a pharmacist have been appointed at the jail, said DIG jail, Kulmohan Shrestha.
