Several screens in the city and across the State are getting ready to screen the 3D version of the movie.

‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth’s philosophical musings in the chart-topping song, ‘Maatram ondru thaan Maaraathathu’ (translates to ‘Change is the only constant’), from ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ has set the tone for the film’s worldwide release this Friday.

Several screens in the city and across the State are getting ready to screen the 3D version of the movie.

In Chennai, AGS has equipped four screens at its multiplex on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) with the latest passive 3D systems and 2K projectors with Harkness silver screens.

“We wanted our viewers to enjoy the ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ experience in the best possible way. The latest projection systems will also help us cater to Hollywood blockbusters better,” said Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainment.

‘Kochadaiiyaan’ seems set to have the biggest opening in terms of 3D screens for a film produced in the country. The 3D draw is also a means to combat video piracy. The film’s distributors Eros Now had cited increased demand for 3D prints as one of the reasons why the film’s release got delayed. ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ was earlier slated to release on May 9.

On Tuesday, the film’s director Soundarya Ashwin, Rajinikant’s younger daughter, tweeted she was headed to Tirupati temple to seek blessings for the success of the country’s first motion-capture 3D film.

Advance bookings

Though under normal circumstances, most theatres open online bookings for Friday releases only at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday, this time, a few theatres opened booking by Tuesday afternoon itself to cater to the fans. Bookings were open on www.bookmyshow.com for a limited number of screens.

City theatres have blocked a large number of screens for the movie.

Sathyam Cinemas will open the film in five of its multiplexes and plans to sell a record number of tickets every day: Sathyam (5,812 tickets), S2 Thyagaraja (2,000 tickets), Luxe (approximately 3,600 tickets) and S2 Perambur (approximately 3,000 tickets).

AGS Cinemas, which will screen ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ in 3D in three screens at its Villivakkam multiplex and four screens at its OMR multiplex, and will sell approximately 10,000 tickets on the opening day.

Over-the-counter sales of tickets are expected to start Wednesday morning.

There is already a huge demand from the actor’s fan clubs and corporates.
