Girls outperform boys in Himachal Pradesh matric results

After outshining boys in class XII results, girls have excelled yet again in matriculation examination conducted by Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE), results for which were announced on Monday.

DHARAMSHALA: After outshining boys in class XII results, girls have excelled yet again in matriculation examination conducted by Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE), results for which were announced on Monday. Diksha Sharma of Bharti Vidyapeeth Public School, Baijnath, in Kangra district topped the exam by scoring 97.43% marks.
Board secretary Balbir Thakur said 1,42,128 candidates appeared in the class X exams, out of which 80,650 were declared pass while 26,205 got compartments.
The overall pass percentage this year dropped to 57.19% as compared to 61.16% in 2013. As many as 34 candidates have made it to the top-ten list -- 20 girls and 14 boys. Private schools bagged almost all top positions with only three toppers being from government schools.
The second position was bagged jointly by Jatin Kanwar of Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Sunni (Shimla), and Preeti Chandel of Aryan Public School, Bilaspur, with a 97.28% score. Nitika of Himalayan International School, Fatehpur (Kangra), and Prerna Kargil of Summer Hill Public School, Lodhwan (Kangra), were third by scoring 97% marks. Vaishali Sharma of Bharatiya Public School, Jogindernagar, bagged fourth position with 96.85%.
Kriti Mahajan of Kids Camp Public School, Chowari, and Akriti of Little Angel Public School, Mehre, (Hamipur) scored 96.71% for fifth position, while Sanya Dhingra of Vardhman Mahavir Public School, Sundernagar, Jahnvi of Bharti Vidyapeeth Baijnath, Kangra, Sonali of Sarswati Vidya Mandir, Sunni, and Shagun Sharma of Minerva Public School, Ghumarwin, took sixth position by scoring 96.57%.
Four students, with 96.42% marks each, were jointly declared seventh -- Priyanka Kumari of Government School, Dhabri, (Hamirpur), Kashish Sharma of Minerva School, Ghumarwin, Sakshi Puri of Swami Vivekananda Public School, Gagret, and Abhinav Bhardwaj of Sishu Model School, Talai (Bilaspur).
