The DN Nagar police officials on Sunday solved a crime involving house break-in in which the suspect had stolen valuables worth Rs 9 lakh.
The police found that he had buried the loot at a spot in his native place in Jharkhand.
The case was solved with unique identification number of the suspect’s cellphone that gave away their hiding place, police said.
D N Nagar police said on May 7, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint against a domestic help. The complainant alleged that he had decamped with valuables worth around Rs 9 lakh from his cupboard using a key.
The victim stayed along with his family members in Prathmesh Residency Co-operative housing society in Andheri (West), but on the day of incident none of the family members were at home.
The suspect, Raju Murari, had been working in the house for more than five years and was a trusted employee, police added.
‘“After the complaint we had formed a special team and finally recovered the whole property which he had stolen”, said senior inspector Arun Chavan.
A constable who was in the investigating team said Raju was nabbed from Rakhiya Devghar village. “When we reached his house and began inquiring, some villagers said that he had reached his village and was showing off his wealth and behaving like a rich man. He wore
expensive clothes which he never wore in Mumbai,” the constable said. “When we caught him, he led us to a farm that belongs to his father. He had buried what was left of the stolen goods,” the constable added.
