Kirit Somaiya visited the counting centre at Vikhroli (East) around 4pm when his win was almost ensured, though the result was not announced officially. Later, attributing his win to the Modi wave, he said, "People have given their mandate in favour of Narendra Modi. Modi wave is definitely behind my win." He also pointed out that corruption by Congress-NCP and Aam Admi Party's arrogance helped him sail through.

Thanking voters, he said, "I lost the seat by 3,000 votes in 2009 and won it back by 3.25 lakh this time. This is wonderful and unexpected. Bhagwan jab deta hai, chappar phaad ke deta hai. It seems people wanted Modi as PM and Kirit as MP."

When asked about the huge expectations of people from him, Somaiya said, "I will start my work next week. Within seven days, Monica More — who lost her hands in a railway accident — will be fitted with electronic arms. I will work with the Railway ministry, so that within a month they come up with a plan for elevation of railway platforms in Mumbai's suburbun network."

He also announced a comprehensive water scheme for the Shivaji Nagar area in Mankhurd, the only assembly seat where Sanjay Dina Patil took the lead. "The results show that people of Shivaji Nagar still hesitate to support me. But I would do everything to help them. Besides poverty elevation scheme, I would get a comprehensive water scheme for this area within three months as the people there don't have access to water even after 65 years of Independence."

He also said that within a month he will bring national pollution control board officers to Mumbai to study the three dumping grounds so that they can suggest ways for betterment of the environment.
