TEMPO.CO, Zwolle - The Netherlands has reported a second case of the dangerous Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) found in a relative of the first person infected who traveled to Saudi Arabia.
"The woman is a family member of the man who was diagnosed yesterday," the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) said in a statement, as reported by Arab News earlier today.
The RIVM explained that the woman was infected on the same trip to Saudi Arabia, where she shared a hotel room with the man who was diagnosed yesterday. The woman has also visited a dromedary farm.
Currently the infected woman is being treated at a hospital in the central Dutch city of Zwolle. She is in a stable condition and is being closely monitored by doctors.
"Both patients have an underlying condition that apparently makes them vulnerable to infection from virus," the RIVM said.
There have been 20 cases of MERS found in Saudi Arabia this year. The total number of cases found in the country is 511 and 157 people had died due to the virus.
