Voters’ Awareness Campaign held at Nyoma, Chumathang

LEH, Apr 24: In order to ensure maximum participation of voters in the ensuing Parliamentary election in Ladakh, the Health Department in collaboration with ICDS conducted a massive Voters Awareness Campaign in Nyoma and Chumathang today.
The progamme was conducted under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) on the direction of RO / DC, Leh, Simrandeep Singh.
CMO, Leh Dr. Phunchok Angchuk, while addressing a large public gathering at both the venues, urged upon the voters to definitely make use of their right to franchise on May 7 when the constituency will go on poll. He asked them to consider the polling as most important task as well as greatest responsibility to strengthen the democracy.
Highlighting the 2009 Parliamentary elections in different parts of Ladakh, he said that Zanskar registered 80% voting turnout in spite of being a far-flung and inaccessible region while as Kargil registered 75%, Nubra 74% and Leh 60% which was the minimum in the region. He appealed every individual to cast their vote on the polling day and ensure maximum voting percentage like previous occasions.
On this occasion, the volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra as a part of SVEEP launched systematic campaign among the voters and motivated them to come out in large number to cast their votes on May 7. A video show was also organized for the people to highlight the significance of votes in bringing development and prosperity in the country.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Field Publicity Officer Leh, Vishal Khajuria, BMO and Doctors of Health Department Nyoma, ICDS officers, ASHAs, ANMs, Anganwadi workers, Sarpanchs, Gobas, members of Ama Tsogspa and villagers in huge numbers.
