Embu Governor Martin Wambora has sacked county secretary Margaret Lorna Kariuki following pressure from members of the Assembly.

Ms Kariuki was given the termination letter on Thursday and her role taken by county administration chief officer Tim Gutetah.

Mr Wambora, who survived impeachment, said he was concerned that Ms Kariuki had caused strained relationship between the Executive and the County Assembly.

“There had been two complaints against her by the County Assembly on the stadium (tender) and employment of staff who were later laid off,” he said.

“The complaints have taken toll on the relationship and we had to get rid of the sideshows.”

If one cannot be reconciled with the assembly, one has to go, according to the governor who faces a new impeachment motion by the assembly.

“We have told her to hand over to the deputy Governor (Dorothy Nditi).”

Documents containing allegations that Ms Kariuki had abused her office had been forwarded to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, he added.

“We don’t want those issues to drag the county any further,” said Mr Wambora.

Ms Kariuki said she was consulting lawyers on whether to seek legal redress.

TERMINATED

She said her services were terminated on recommendation of the County Assembly which is engaged in a tussle with Mr Wambora.

“If the move will end the wrangles between the two, then I wouldn’t mind,” she said. “However, that does not stop me from seeking legal redress.”

The secretary’s battle with Embu County Assembly was the genesis of the impeachment motions against Mr Wambora.
