Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti will not become the new Manchester United manager, according to former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon.

Following David Moyes' dismissal on Tuesday a host of names have been linked with succeeding the Scot at Old Trafford, including the Italian coach.

Borussia Dortmund manager Jugen Klopp and Bayern Munich's Pep Guardiola have already distanced themselves from the role and Calderon, who relinquished control of Real in 2009, believes Ancelotti will also spurn United's advances.

"I believe Carlo Ancelotti will be with Real Madrid next season," Calderon told talkSPORT. "He's got a contract. We don't know what's happening with Manchester United."

Having led the club to their worst campaign in the Premier League era, Moyes was dismissed with just four games of the season remaining with Ryan Giggs taking an interim role until a replacement is named.

And given the disastrous campaign at Old Trafford, Calderon believes the club had little choice but to get rid of Sir Alex Ferguson's hand-picked successor.

"It's always a pity when you have to sack a coach," he continued. "I had that problem with Fabio Capello. Sometimes you have to take those decisions though. Manchester United's results have not been normal so it's a decision they had to take."

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has been installed as the favourite for the United job in the aftermath of Moyes' sacking. The 62-year-old coach will leave the Dutch set up following their World Cup campaign but reports suggest he is ready and waiting to open talks with United immediately.

The Glazer family are expected to fly into Manchester to meet executive chairman Ed Woodward to establish how the club will pursue van Gaal, who will take up official duties with Holland from May 7. The Guardian suggest that Woodward is eager to sign off on a deal for the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach before then.
