A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly performing illegal online transactions of over Rs 14 lakh from two bank accounts of a retired government officer.

NOIDA: A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly performing illegal online transactions of over Rs 14 lakh from two bank accounts of a retired government officer. The accused, Ritesh Kumar, was arrested from Pratap Vihar on Wednesday.
Kumar first stole the identity proof of the victim, Naresh Chandra, hacked his mobile and then got a new SIM card issued on the same name using forged documents.

Bharti Singh, SP (Crime), said Chandra had lodged a complaint that someone illegally transacted Rs 14.35 lakh and Rs 16,000 from two of his accounts in Union Bank of India. The victim also complained that his mobile phone was hacked.
Police found the same amount transferred to the bank account of Ritesh Kumar, after which his mobile phone was put on surveillance and then he was arrested. During interrogation, Ritesh revealed that he was working for a call centre of an insurance company and was exposed to the bank account details of a large number of people. In the office he befriended Vinay Kumar and together they decided to make easy money to start their own call centre.
The two accused knew the victim as the latter had got an insurance policy done by them.
Police said they have the video footage of Ritesh getting a new SIM card and also found his photo used for opening the bank account. Ritesh is Class XII pass and belongs to West Bengal.
Police have also recovered Rs 3.5 lakh cash, and around Rs 7 lakh deposited in the bank, while Rs 4 lakh was given to Vinay, who is still absconding.
one laptop, 11 mobile phones, seven debit and credit cards, one PAN card, one motorcycle, insurance data, fake seals of different companies and the hacked SIM of the victim.
