Baby survives two-story plunge in Manhattan

A toddler survived a brush with death early Wednesday when he fell from a third-story Manhattan window and landed on a plastic garbage container that broke his fall, cops and witnesses said.

Jayvin Cruz, 2, fell out of the window of his Chinatown apartment building at around 1:15 a.m. and luckily fell on the container before bouncing onto the ground, a witness said.

“I heard something go ‘boom,’” said witness Earl Boyd, 58. “The baby fell onto [the container] and fell on the ground — that’s what saved the baby.”

The child’s aunt, Olga Rivera, said Jayvin was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center and was listed in stable condition early Wednesday.

It was not clear why the child fell, or where his parents were at the time.
