Mrityunjay dominates in Sport Climbing C’ship

JAMMU, Apr 22: Mrityunjay Sharma, a climber in the Sub Junior Boys category, dominated the 14th Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here today.
13 year old Mrityunjay, a class 8th student of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu who also participated in Junior Boys and Men categories also bagged a silver medal each in both the categories besides winning a gold medal in Sub Junior category.
In the boys section, four climbers including Mrityunjay topped the 40 ft high wall and the result had to be determined on the basis of time taken to reach the top of the wall in which Abhishek Singh, Mrityunjay and Aman Dogra secured the first three positions respectively.
Similarly, in the Men’s category four Junior climbers including Mrityunjay topped the wall and clinched first three positions. The result was judged on the basis of time taken for the climb and Abhishek Singh of Oriental Aademy, Mrityunjay Sharma of Shangrilla Public School and Hardev Singh of Shining Star Academy, Muthi, Jammu won the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal respectively.
In the girls category also there was an upset when Shivani, a Sub Junior climber defeated Shilpa Charak, last year’s Zonal silver medalist. Both topped the wall but as Shivani took less time to complete the climb she was declared the winner. Muskan Abrol of Oriental Academy secured the third place.
In Sub Junior Girls category Shivani of Shining Star Academy, Nitya Sharma of Shangrilla Public School and Asma Gul of Sprawling Buds School won the first three places respectively.
Pallavi easily retained the women title, while Tsewang Ladol of SOS Hermann Meiner School, Gole Gujral and Ambreen Fatima of Model Academy finished second and third respectively.
Earlier, on Monday the championship was declared open by Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture and Youth Services and Sports in the presence of Ashwani Sharma, MLA, Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha, Jammu and Sanjeet Khajuria, Assistant Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu.
The championship was organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
