The witnesses were found by private investigators hired by convicted killer Johannes Kana’s family, the Cape Times reported.
Kana is the only person who was convicted for Booysen’s murder despite her saying moments before her death that there were five or six men involved in her attack. She also managed to say “Zwai and his friends” were behind the crimes.
Booysen, 17, was raped, disembowelled and left for dead in Bredasdorp early on 2 February last year.
Jonathan “Zwai” Davids, a friend of Booysen’s family, was arrested, but later freed due to a lack of evidence. “Zwai” is also said to be the nickname of another man said to live in Zwelitsha, an informal settlement near Bredasdorp.
While Booysen’s family has welcomed the probe, Western Cape police commissioner Arno Lamoer claims a proper investigation had been done.
