I was disillusioned and disappointed, says Shashank Manohar

Q: You attended a BCCI meeting after such a long time. How was the experience?

* I was disillusioned.

Q: Will you elaborate?

* I don’t disclose the boardroom matters in public. But I was disillusioned and disappointed.

Q: You opposed Ravi Shastri’s inclusion in the proposed three-member panel. What was the reason?

* Again, it is against my nature to reveal the BCCI matters in public. I never do that. Whatever I had to say I said it in the meeting.

Q: The conflict of interest issue is supposed to be the root of all problems. Do you want the BCCI to have a rethink on the matter?

* It’s for the BCCI to decide if they want to have a rethink.

Q: You were one of the BCCI office bearers when the constitution was amended in 2008 to allow N Srinivasan to buy the Chennai Super Kings franchise. Do you regret the decision now?

* It’s difficult for me to tell. Six years have passed and I don’t carry the BCCI papers with me to let you know exactly what happened and in what situation or circumstances the decision was taken. I never considered anybody as my enemy. But I always talked straight and was always forthright in my views. But many years have passed since I left the BCCI, so I can’t recall what happened in that meeting.

Q: Do you think the BCCI is following the right process to clean-up cricket?

* The general body has to decide if the proper corrective measures are taken. If it feels that right process is being followed, then that is the BCCI’s decision.

Q: Are you ready to return to BCCI and lead the fight against corruption?

* It depends on whether the BCCI wants me. If the cricket board wants me, then I’m always available. Because I’ve a duty to the BCCI and Indian cricket.

Q: Did you get the feeling in yesterday’s meeting that the BCCI needed your service?

* I never went to the BCCI since I left office two-and-a-half years ago. But the Vidarbha Cricket Association nominated me for this meeting, certain BCCI members and some cricketers requested me to come. So I decided to attend. But I reiterate, I was disappointed.
