Three-year plan revealed for 3,100 jobs in Coventry

More than 3,100 new jobs could be created in Coventry over the next three years, under plans put forward by the city council.

In its Jobs and Growth Strategy for 2014-2017, Coventry City Council is targeting £200m of business investment.

As well as its own financial backing, the council said it would support training and skills projects.

Coventry City Council said its latest projections were based on the previous strategy for 2011-14.

More than 3,200 new jobs have been created in Coventry over the last three years, although its unemployment rate of 9.1% remains above the national average of 7.7%.

The local authority is proposing to attract outside investors to the area, as well as support home-grown businesses.

To do this, the report highlights, external a number of infrastructure improvements, including identifying readily available properties for manufacturers, and installing high speed broadband.

The three-year strategy was put before the business, economy and enterprise scrutiny board and will be discussed by the cabinet on 13 May.
