TERI Sustainable Development Leadership Award for Mahindra Group

Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has received the Sustainable Development Leadership Award from the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The Award was prsented by Mr. Salman Khurshid, External Affairs Minister, at a special ceremony held in New Delhi in recognition of the dynamic and visionary leadership of Mr. Mahindra.

“With its dynamic and visionary approach, TERI has greatly contributed to the global dialogue on finding solutions to global problems in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development, and I am honoured to accept this Award from them on behalf of the Mahindra Group,” said Mr. Mahindra on the occasion.

Instituted by TERI in 2005, the Sustainable Development Leadership Award felicitates global leaders for their contributions to sustainable development. It is presented as TERI’s tribute to eminent individuals engaged in encouraging global initiatives that can lead the world towards a sustainable future.

The past recipients of the Award include Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California, and Mr. Shoichiro Toyoda, Honorary Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation.

The annual DSDS is a major event focusing on sustainable development, the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and assessment of worldwide progress in these critical areas. DSDS attracts the most prominent thinkers and practitioners in a range of fields that impinge on development. Since development worldwide is moving towards an architecture based on partnerships, the leaders who participate in DSDS come from government, business and industry, multilateral and bilateral organizations, research and academia and civil society.

In keeping with its focus on harnessing the technological advancements in green technology and deploy the same towards betterment of the overall automotive eco-system, Mahindra had its green product portfolio on display at Auto Expo in Greater Noida.

Mr. Mahindra also unveiled the Mahindra Formula-E Car, which will participate in the FIA sponsored Formula-E Championship starting in September next. The Mahindra Group, besides being the only Indian team to participate in the Formula-E, hopes to integrate its advanced operations and expertise in electronics, IT, automotive technologies and manufacturing into the global electric vehicle growth story.

The Formula-E is a new FIA Championship featuring Formula Cars powered solely by electricity. It is expected to serve as a critical platform for research and development into future sustainable electric vehicles.
