Thousands of protesters belonging to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) led by the President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Manjit Singh G.K, also president of Delhi unit of SAD, today staged dharna outside the headquarters of Indian National Congress in Delhi against the comments of former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh, who in an interview to a news channel said that Congress leader Mr. Jagdish Tytler has no role in the Sikh genocide of 1984. Mr. Amarinder is congress party candidate from Amritsar constituency for parliament polls.
More than a dozen protestors suffered injuries after water-canon and police cane charge was unleashed on them. A large number of protestors including Mr. G.K. were also arrested and taken to Tughlaq Road police station.
Terming the statement by Captain Amarinder Singh as atrocious, shocking and anti-Sikhs, Mr. G.K. said that it had angered the Sikhs living all over the globe and has rubbed salt into the wounds of families of innocent Sikhs killed in riots.
"When families of Sikhs killed in riots are fighting for justice, even after 30 years of the black episode engineered by congress party, in which Mr. Tytler alongwith other Congress leaders including Mr. Sajjan Kumar were directly involved, Amarinder's comment at this stage proves that he is a traitor who had backstabbed the Sikhs for petty political gain,"said Mr. GK, adding that well thought comments by former Punjab CM were to polarize the voters by destroying the secular fabric, because Amarinder see his defeat at the hands of SAD-BJP candidate Mr. Arun Jetley as inevitable.
"Amarinder Singh has no judicial authority to give a clean chit to an accused of a heinous crime. By making such comments he had tried to pressurize the judicial system of the country," said Mr. G.K. who further said that there are also chances that after defeat Amarinder may find an escape route in these comments, after defeat he would tell his party that he lost because of these comments which were an attempt to save congress leaders accused in 1984 genocide.
