Any new single/album, we will be expecting from you?
Of course yes I have my first solo single coming our very soon, I'm just preparing for the music video being shot in Toronto in May and then a worldwide release in June kicking off the summer. I'm at the same time working on my solo album with a host of collaborations from all genres be it mainstream, Bollywood, Punjabi, South Indian and European.

What is that one crazy thing, a fan has done for you, anything quirky/fun?
Haha well yes not really for me but involved me. So me and Nindy my wife were performing in the USA and a crazy fan jumped onto stage and took a photo with me....NOT SO CRAZY!!! yeh I know but after taking a photo he turned around went down on his knees with a ring and asked my wife a hand in marriage. Haha that was crazy indeed.

Being a singer yourself, who is your favourite singer from Bollywood?
I have a few favorite singers based on different tones of voices. I love Mika's tone for his style, also Salim for his slow numbers, Shreya Ghoshal of course, she is amazing and Sunidhi not to forget and Vishal with his gurndgy voice. To be honest there are so many and I can't pick just one.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration was my older brother Kuly paji as he taught me the ways of music and production and then I adapted my own style from that. When Kuly paji passed away, I lost my right hand man in production and just never felt the same but for sure he has been a big inspiration for me.

Tell us more about your musical journey! How did it begin?
Wow, well it started from when we were small and how we used to sing in the gurdwara with our father to then Kuly and me trying our hands in music production at a young age just making beats and trying to mix them into other songs and trying to sing and rap in a home microphone. From this I made a mix for a group called Sahara and that mix did very well when his label released the song. From there, me and Kuly worked with Surinder Rattan on the lick to create some cool ideas and started touring with him for DJing etc not only in UK but across the globe. From there, me and Kuly produced the first RDB debut album and it was non- stop from there.

With contemporaries like Honey Singh & Jay Sean, do you fear competition?
No of course not, I know Jay and Honey myself and feel all artists give me a rush to create something different. It's not competition but I'm just creating my own sound.

Manjeet Ral with wife Nindy Kaur.

What are your future plans? Give our readers a sneak peek into your forthcoming numbers.
I have a few songs coming out like Heropanti's title song Whistle baja has been composed arranged and sung by me with my wife Nindy Kaur and also feat Raftaar famed for writing the song Tamanche Pe disco. Also some singles of my own feat Diljit and another feat Gippy Grewal plus with Salim Suleman and Vishal etc. It's a none stop game now.

Your fans don't know a lot about your personal life and wife. Throw some light.
Wow, me and Nindy met 12 years ago in Canada and it was like a Bollywood movie. It was love over the net and talks through emails etc to finally meeting and falling in love. We were married 3 months after the first time we met, crazy but it feels like yesterday and now we have a beautiful 7-year-old son. She never had any interest in singing but I felt touring would be better if we toured and performed together, that's when I found she had a hidden singing talent as I caught her humming in the car one day. Since then we have been doing shows together worldwide but now she's taken a bit of a backseat as our son is growing up and needs her with him a lot more.

Acting debut, anytime soon?
Hahaha, I have so many requests but not yet. I feel that my music career as just been re-born so I will take this to new heights before venturing into acting.

How has life been after your brother's death? It was a big loss to the music industry.
Life was very slow in the music front as I only had Kuly paji to help produce and nobody can ever replace him. Since I have had my head down to make music, Nindy and Raftaar have been my creative ears and been a huge support to build me up again and it's all on a high from now on.
