BHOPAL: A former SP leader committed suicide by jumping before a moving train here on Sunday morning. The body was found near Bawadiya Kalan railway crossing.
In suicide notes recovered, it came out that the man, Rajkumar Singh, was in debt and another SP leader Bhagwan Das Yadav was allegedly after him for the money, police said. Singh who was working as a contractor, was reportedly not doing well in business and there were occasions when he leaned on his friends for financial help.
A case was registered at Bagh Sewania police station.
Singh hailed from Balia in Uttar Pradesh and was a resident of Goyal Apartments in Arera Colony. He lived with his wife and a son who studies in Class X. before stepping out of the house, Singh told family members he was going for a walk, police said.
Singh was reportedly locked in a legal battle with Yadav, who runs a school in Mata Mandir area. Yadav and Singh had lodged complaints against each other at TT Nagar police station in the past. The issue was reportedly settled by mutual understanding, but latter Yadav began demanding money from him to withdraw the case.
The case was filed under sections of voluntary causing hurt. Singh feared arrest and was upset over it as he did not have the money after all his source of income dried up, police said, adding that a case of abetment of suicide would be registered soon.
However, immediate cause remains unclear, police said. The police said they got the information around 8 am after which the body was recovered and sent for autopsy.
