Former Brazil striker Luis Fabiano helped Sao Paulo to a winning start in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday as the six-time champions defeated Botafogo 3-0.
The former Sevilla forward struck in the 56th minute after Douglas and Antonio Carlos netted in the first half at the Morumbi stadium.
"This gives us great confidence. It's great to begin the season accumulating points," Fabiano said. "That's what we have to do if we want to be one of the frontrunners."
Fabiano's former Selecao teammates Alexandre Pato and Paulo Henrique Ganso also shone for the hosts, each picking up assists and posing problems for Botafogo's defence.
In other matches on Sunday, Atletico Mineiro drew 0-0 with Corinthians, Atletico Paranaense overcame Gremio 1-0, Cruzeiro beat Bahia 2-1, Criciuma lost to Palmeiras 2-1, Flamengo drew 0-0 with Goias and Sport held Santos to a 1-1 draw. Endi
