The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has sent an alert to Mumbai police stating that there is a possibility of terrorist attack through the sea route. The force has requested the police to step up the preparedness at landing points to thwart infiltration. The alert was issued by ICG headquarter at Worli.

According to the alert, there is a possibility of sea borne sub-conventional attacks during elections on April 24 as well as possibility of illicit liquor and contraband and movement of criminals and terrorist elements through sea route. There is a need to maintain an enhanced state of preparedness to thwart any infiltration.
The ICG has requested the city police's direct operational units or shore surveillance team to provide coastal security cover with particular emphasis on landing points.

"Inspector general of coastal security and commissioner of fisheries are requested to enhance patrols within their respective area of responsibility (AOR) and deploy their units accordingly.

"We have taken a serious note of the alert issued by the ICG as they have warned of infiltration during elections and have asked all the police stations that have coastal areas in their jurisdiction to step up the patrolling and keep an eye on the movements of suspicious elements in sea," said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.
