SXSW Suspect Facing Four New Assault Charges

Rashad Owens, the driver accused of fatally running down SXSW attendees in March, is reportedly facing four new charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Rashad Owens, the 21-year-old driver accused of fatally running down South by Southwest attendees in March, is facing four new charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Austin-American Statesman.

Owens has already been charged with murder and 20 counts of aggravated assault. The four new charges tack on an additional $500,000 to his $5 million in bail, according to jail records, the Statesman reports.

The four new assault charges reportedly stem from injuries ranging from scratches to a fractured neck.

Owens is accused of accelerating through a SXSW crowd while driving drunk, killing four people and leaving 17 injured. Police say he was fleeing a patrolman and driving down a street that was closed for the Austin music festival when the crash happened.
