JAMSHEDPUR: The increased poll percentage in the district has raised the confidence of all three prominent political parties vying for the coveted Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat that went for polling on Thursday.
Most political parties are claiming that they will secure a win in the election ever since the announcement was made on Thursday evening by the district administration.
"Voter turnout in each of the assembly segments has been impressive and we believe the Narendra Modi wave drew the voters to the polling booths. Feedback from the booth levels is positive and we are confident of winning the seat by a good margin of votes," said BJP district spokesperson Anil Modi on Friday.
The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) that is also overwhelmed by the turnout said it will win the election. "First, we would like to thank the voters for exercising their voting rights across all the six assembly segments of the constituency. Going by the ground reports we can say JVM (P) is all set to triumph in Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency for the second straight term," said C H Rammurthy, party spokesperson for Kolhan division.
Deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said there was 65% polling in the district, which is 13% higher than the 2011 mid-term election that recorded 51.38% of polling on an average.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha that contested the election with the support of Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal also expressed confidence about winning the seat. "All four rural assembly segments where JMM is strong witnessed encouraging voter turnout and we also need to remember that our senior leaders, including chief minister Hemant Soren, canvassed for the candidate," said a senior party leader, adding that the good turnout augurs well for the party.
