A meeting of language lovers organised under the aegis of the Malayala Aikya Vedi at the demolished AUP School, Malapparamba, decided to go on strike against the government move to close down some 1,450 aided schools in the State stating that they were uneconomical.
A group of artists, writers and other cultural leaders who gathered at the school took a pledge that they would not allow the destruction of another school, let alone the Malapparamba school.
Support soughtThe meeting urged all language lovers to fight for the protection of these Malayalam medium schools.
Former Joint Director of Education V.P. Ravindran; School Protection Committee chairman Bhasi Malapparamba; A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA; Corporation councillor K.T. Padmaja; former District Education Officer N. Sasidharan; and poet and academician Veerankuttty were present.
