Puri yatra, Bodh Gaya on IM hit-list
NEW DELHI: Tehsin Akhtar and Pakistani bombmaker Waqas have revealed deadly plans of Indian Mujahideen in their interrogation by the Delhi police’s special cell. Sources say the IM members said the outfit had planned to carry a fresh attack on Bodh Gaya after their first attempt did not yield desired results.
The group had also plans to target the rath yatra in Puri, which is being regularly organized in July, a source said.
These inputs have been shared with Bihar and Bhubaneswar security agencies apart from central agencies . The idea, they alleged, was to create a stampede-like situation in the rath yatra by planting serial bombs to achieve maximum casualties. A special cell team is camping in Bhubaneswar to recover a laptop that has the elaborate plan to carry out the attack.
Bodh Gaya was important for the outfit, Tehsin said, to get the global attention.
The group was planning to bypass the 16 cameras placed after the first attack at the Buddhist shrine and was also hunting for a way to communicate as mobile phones are banned in the religious site.
The attack on Rath Yatra in Puri in Odisha is conceptualized the way the Patna rally blasts were executed, sources said. The SIMI members had been instructed to carry out the serial blasts that will trigger stampede.
