Ahead of Easter Sunday’s pivotal matchup versus upstart Everton at Goodison Park, which is also manager David Moyes return to his old stomping grounds, Manchester United still stand within striking distance of Champions League and Europa qualification.

The Red Devils will of course need lots of help from their competitors atop the table in order to qualify for either, and Moyes first-year troubles as manager aside, this is still the same club that dominated Premier League last season and has the wherewithal and purchasing power to return to glory even if this campaign remains at its current plateau.

With that in mind United are reportedly considering several options on the transfer market this summer, particularly along midfield and backline.

United can especially bank on their previous successes by courting Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus. The 24-year-old has desired a switch to Manchester United as told by former teammate and present-Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze to Express earlier this week.

Since breaking into Bundesliga in 2009 with Monchengladbach and moving over to Dortmund three years later, Reus has totaled 65 goals in Germany’s top league and he’ll cost United at least £35 million.

Reus is under contract until 2017 and interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona could complicate a move.

Moyes may be interested in bolstering an aging backline in the offseason. Rio Ferdinand, 35, Nemanja Vidic, 32, and Patrice Evra, 32, could all move on this summer.

The search for defense begins in Portugal with Benfica left-back and presently-on-loan-to-Granada Guilherme Siqueria, along with Porto center-back Eliaquim Mangala, according to Independent.

Moyes could even plunder Porto for striker Jackson Martinez, who would be insurance should Robin Van Persie decide to part. Reports indicate Moyes has personally scouted all three players, heightening speculation for a move.

Mangala was supposed to be wrapped for a stay at Manchester City, but that deal fell through and Moyes could begin his redemption with United fans by landing the talented French 23-year-old who’s totaled six goals in 50 appearances with Porto since 2011.

Siqueria, 27, would likely be keen for a permanent switch to Old Trafford after only 15 matches and one goal this season with Granada. With so many departures expected along United’s defense, regular pitch time might in the cards for Siqueria.

Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Serie A’s Roma are also intrigued by Martinez, making him the toughest get of the bunch. Martinez, 27, will cost roughly £26.5 million for any suitor after increasing his value with 44 goals in two years in Portugal.
