State film awards: Winners Speak
Ann Augustine
It was a period where I was not getting good films, and I was surprised when Shyamaprasad sir offered me this big role in Artist. I thank him for the trust he showed in me. I feel this award is a gift from my father (late actor Augustine). He never saw the film as he said he couldn’t bear to see his daughter cry even on screen. Many who watched the film had told him I became a real artist only now, and he was planning to watch it.
I wish he had. This is my gift to him, too.

The awards this year have surprised everyone, especially me, I had no expectations at all this year. Getting an award for yourself makes one happiest, no doubt. I'm extremely glad young people were acknowledged this time, it is a great beginning. As a director I would not like an actor coming to the set with preconceived notions of what to do. Similarly, as an actor, I let the director decide what I should do.
I’m specially happy for Fahadh; with each film, he has only bettered himself, instead of growing complacent.
Shyamaprasad
It’s always a pleasure to get an award but recognition from friends and the public is always the best award, I feel. The state award is only a culmination of it all.
Suraj Venjaramoodu
At the national awards, I got named the best actor, and the state names me the best comedian. Doesn’t it prove I can handle all kinds of roles? (chuckles)
