Former world champions Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button both missed the final shoot-out at a wet qualifying session for the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday.
Raikkonen, racing in front of new Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci for the first time, finished 11th fastest in Q2 ahead of Button and Kevin Magnussen in the other McLaren.
Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, winner of the last two races, was setting the pace and led the top 10 drivers into Q3, four-tenths quicker than Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg.
