Grand carnival on voting prowess

VADODARA: The city will witness a grand carnival that will portray the culture and heritage of all the Indian states on Sunday evening. About 50 floats will pass through different areas of the city as a part of Vadodara Carnival to create voting awareness. Organizers of the event said they will portray the dances, costumes and heritage of different states on the floats.The carnival will start from Leprosy Ground and end at Akota Stadium.
Also, plans have been made to reach out to lakhs of young Facebook users with an appeal to them to cast their ballot on April 30. "Our aim is to appeal to people to come out and vote. We have organized voter awareness programmes in the past but this time we have organized it on a bigger scale," said Nilesh Shukla, senior vice-president of Vadodara Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Vthat is co-organizer of Vadodara Carnival.
"About 350 firms have taken decision to encourage their employees to cast vote," said former Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI) president, Geeta Goradia. The Baroda Citizens Council (BCC) and VCCI have organized the road show along with several institutions and NGOs.
The organizers claimed that the event is completely apolitical and that they are not supporting any political party. They, though, admitted that the presence of prime ministerial candidate from Vadodara has put lot of focus on the city and their voting awareness campaign.
The road show will begin with a flash mob at Leprosy Ground and then head towards Mahavir Chowk, Sangam Crossroads, Amrapali Complex in Karelibaug, Jeevan Bharti School, Buddhadev Colony, Fatehgunj, Kalaghoda Circle, Chikuwadi, Bird Circle, Natubhai Circle, ISKCON Temple, Makarand Desai Road, Old Padra Road and end at Akota Stadium.
