300 devotees trace symbolic path of Christ's crucifiction
LUDHIANA: When you saw them kneeling down on their knees at 14 stations between Vishal Nagar SBA ashram to Holy Cross Catholic Church, Sarabha Nagar; it was their special way to connect to Jesus. A procession was conducted to commemorate of Good Friday, on Friday. With approximately 300 devotees, the procession started from Vishal Nagar Church at 12.30pm and devotees stopped at 14 stations accordingly, symbolizing places where Jesus was taken before being crucified.
Talking about the 14 stations, Avin, a devotee, said, "These all are treated as stations related to death sentence till crucifiction of Jesus."
The 14 stations include the period when Jesus was condemned to death, second station was when Jesus carries his cross; then accordingly, all other stages came to fore when Jesus falls down for the first time; meets his mother; Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry his cross; Veronica wipes his face; Jesus falls down the second time; meets the women of Jerusalem; Jesus falls down for the third time; his clothes are taken away; Jesus is nailed to the cross; Jesus dies on the cross; his body is taken down from the cross and ultimately, buried in the tomb. The procession concluded at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Sarabha Nagar, and a prayer session followed.
