‘People forget your past...’
‘Hurt’ Yuvi says the act of stone-throwing at his residence after T20 WC loss was not in good taste.

Yuvraj Singh made a fervent appeal to fans back home that they should control their emotions and not forget a player’s contribution while reacting against them. He was referring to the incident of stonepelting in his house after his poor showing in the World Twenty20 final in Dhaka recently.

“The problem with our country is that people forget what you have done in the past. That’s the biggest problem in our country,” the India star remarked.

He sympathised with those who vandalised his house and said he was sad for them. “I am not sad. I am sad for those people who do such kind of things because if that’s the way you want to treat people who have brought laurels for your country, it’s their choice. I don’t have much to say.”

He, however, called the incident unfortunate. “It was not in good taste. It’s unfortunate that sometimes people react the way they react forgetting what has happened in the past.”

The Punjab player said he was disappointed with his showing in the Dhaka match in which he scored 11 off 21 balls. “Obviously, you are disappointed when you have lost a World Cup final. You know that at an important stage you have gotten out and you could not contribute for your team. But at the end of the day you need to realise that it’s a game and anybody can have a bad day.”

Yuvraj, who played a stellar knock of 52 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Delhi Daredevils on Thursday night, was happy with the way he ‘expressed himself.’ “I needed to get some rhythm. I thought I needed to play the way I play.

I thought I wanted to go to a place where I could express myself, and Virat (Kohli) and Zaheer Khan always told me that RCB was a place where you could come and play the way you want, because there are so many dynamic players over here. You don’t have to worry about carrying on till the end alone.”
