THANJAVUR: BJP national president Rajnath Singh said that MDMK leader Vaiko would be given a key portfolio in the NDA cabinet once the BJP wins the elections and forms the government.
Addressing a public meeting in Virudhunagar on Friday, Rajnath Singh also said that BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu was not just for the Lok Sabha elections but would be maintained for the assembly elections in 2016.
"Our alliance would capture power in Tamil Nadu in 2016,'' he said.
BJP will win majority of the seats in the forthcoming polls and Narendra Modi would become the prime minister. Vaiko will be given a key portfolio in the Modi-led government, where he would be entrusted with making crucial decisions," said Rajnath Singh.
Singh who wound up his day long campaign in Tamil Nadu at Virudhunagar, heaped praises on Vaiko saying that the MDMK leader was a good friend and their relationship went beyond party affiliations. He is a good parliamentarian. I am happy to campaign for him. He is set to make a historic victory in Virudhunagar,'' he said.
Singh slammed Congress for price rise and its foreign policies. "The Center's foreign policy is a miserable failure with regard to our neighbouring countries. If BJP comes to power, we will speak the language that other countries understand,'' he said. He also claimed the India's status in the international arena had been compromised due to the wrong policies of the Congress government.
During Vajpayee's regime, price rise was kept under check. But the only contribution Congress has made to the country is inflation and corruption'' he charged.

At Karaikudi where he campaigned for BJP candidate H Raja, Rajnath Singh trained his guns on union finance minister P Chidambaram. Chidambaram who has been elected several times from Sivaganga has done nothing to develop the constituency. Youth suffer from unemployment,'' he alleged.
He hit out at DMK and AIADMK blaming that the two parties for channelizing their energy in eliminating each other instead of developing the state.
Earlier, addressing an election campaign in Thanjavur for BJP candidate Karuppu alias Muruganandham, PMK's Nagappattinam candidate Vadivel Ravanan and Mayiladuthurai candidate Agoram, Rajnath sought to strike a chord with delta farmers, expressing concern over their plight. He said that farmers are unable to profit from agriculture. When the BJP is elected at the Center, he assured them of fair price for their produce and crop loans with minimum interest.
On the fishermen issue, Rajnath blamed the DMK and the AIADMK for their 'inconsistent policy' to resolve the issue. He said that both the state governments and the central government did not take any effective step to resolve the problem.
Rajnath said that their prime duty after coming to power at the Centre would be to find a solution to Sri Lankan Tamil issue.
