Mapusa: The district magistrate (DM), North Goa, recently passed an order keeping in abeyance a no-objection certificate (NOC) issued by it to a proposed petrol pump in Anjuna for the storage of petroleum products.
The office of the North Goa magistrate stated that the deputy town planner of the town and county planning department in Mapusa raised certain technical issues and that the proposal is required to be re-examined.
North Goa district magistrate directed the petroleum company to refrain from taking up further developmental work.
The town and country planning (TCP) office in Mapusa observed that the plan submitted for the issue of an NOC for storage of petroleum products to the chief town planner and the plan submitted for the issue of technical clearance to the North Goa district office, Mapusa, are contradictory to each other. The TCP office also noticed that no road was shown towards the northern side boundary in the plan submitted to it.
In the plan submitted to the North Goa district office, a 6m-wide road was shown towards the northern side boundary.
On the basis of the plan submitted before the North Goa district office, the technical clearance order was issued.
In view of this contradiction, TCP office, Mapusa, stated that the proposal is required to be re-examined.
Locals have also opposed the petrol pump project claiming that it could prove disastrous for the area.
The villagers expressed apprehensions that houses are situated just 15m away from the proposed project, and that the nearby wells could also get polluted.
Locals from Anjuna also claimed that the petrol pump is being set up in an area which is actually a settlement zone.
