CHANDIGARH: A day after the TOI carried a photo feature on lack of storage facility in grain market of Sanghi - the native village of Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Rohtak district - state cooperation minister Satpal Sangwan visited mandi on Friday to inspect the lifting process.
The officials briefed the minister about the efforts to lift the purchased wheat by the state-run agencies.
Over 300 tonnes of wheat was lifted by a government agency from the market on Friday and around 1,200 tonnes was likely to be lifted on Saturday. On Thursday, just 115 tonnes of wheat was moved by the agency.
In the absence of sheds to store the food grains, around 6,000 tonnes of wheat is still lying in market and roadside in the open. Sangwan informed, the farmers that the government has planned construction of sheds in the market to store the food grains for next season, said a source.
According to an official press release, the government agency has also been advised to lift the purchased material on day-to-day basis in order to avoid any inconvenience in the market.
